Top 3 habits for successful Social Media Managers in 2020

Social media managers are responsible for curating a brand’s social channels. They monitor, moderate and respond to audience comments; manage social media partnerships with other brands; and create and/or post shareable videos and images. They also strategize and execute digital marketing campaigns and gather and analyze the data results from those campaigns. Around 47% of the world’s population uses social media, spending an average of two hours daily. This simply indicates that there is a huge responsibility on the shoulders of a social media manager. To keep themselves focused they need to check themselves occasionally and acquire new habits.
A lot happened in social media in 2019 which paved the way for social media managers to adopt new approaches for 2020. There are many things which every social media manager should be doing in 2020 to enhance brand communication strategy and to do those things they should acquire the below-mentioned habits:
1. Focus on building a community, not just an audience:- Social media is more about building an engaged online community rather than just grabbing attention and growing an audience. Your message is not going to resonate with every single person; therefore as a social media manager, you have to know who you want to reach and build your community with. You should be aware of what they want to hear from you. It is advised that as a social media manager you should visit all the platforms every day to see what’s going on and learn more about your community. This will give you an idea about what they are interested in, what drives them, what moves them, and what inspires them. Address the curiosities, reply to comments and answer the questions. Leverage your current community members to bring others into the fold.
2. Don’t be perfect:- Being perfect is the biggest hurdle in the path of learning new things. To keep improving always hunt for perfectionism but never attain it. Here it should not be interpreted that you are free for letting awful content or automation to take over. You should just keep in mind that your content is never going to be perfect, and your social media ‘To Do’ list will never be fully complete. In many cases, we have to be ok with ‘done and imperfect’, as it’s better than simply not done at all. Therefore, you should resist yourself from spending hours designing and brushing up one single post up to the perfectionism of minute details.
3. Advocate for yourself:- Social media managers are often expected to be marketers, creators, analysts and customer service people. These expectations from them often land social media managers into the vortex of stress. No doubt, every job comes with responsibilities and we all know responsibilities are always accompanied by stress. But constantly feeling like you’re struggling to keep your head above water is not okay. Therefore, it is advised that don’t be afraid to advocate for your work. Conduct a detailed inventory of your time, listing out as many tasks as possible, and how long it takes to accomplish them and let your superiors know how much work is sustainable for you. Everyone knows quality is better than quantity.
